The amount of waste produced at parties is always huge.

Plastic plates, cutlery and disposable cups, plastic bottles, food packaging, bags... After a party we can literally find ourselves submerged with waste! The real problem is that all disposable products have a strong impact on the environment, not only because a large amount of energy is used to produce them, but above all because they are hard to recycle.

But could we have a waste free party? Certainly, as explained by Valentina Petrone, architect and environmental consultant. Here are her tips:

- To serve the food and the cake you can use washable dishes, cutlery and glasses. If you're having children's party, you can also ask parents to bring the water bottle their kids use every day at school.

- For the preparation of food you may decide to prepare yourself some simple home made snacks in advance to avoid pre-packaged food.

- For parents' coffee, you can ask in the invitation to bring their own reusable cup.

- Invitations can be sent by e-mail and you can also use one of the numerous websites that allow both, the management of the guests' responses and the creation of invitations.

- The Party Bags can be replaced with paper bags or with loose items that every guest can take from a basket.
