Opera Australia’s exciting 2020 Season has everything it needs to be an unforgettable one. Great opera titles, some of today’s biggest international singers, directors and conductors and stories that will make you laugh, cry or contemplate today’s society.

The 2020 Opera Australia Season kicks off on 02 January with Puccini's La Boheme. Carlo Goldstein and Tahu Matheson conducts a cast that includes sopranos Karah Son and Valeria Sepe as Mimì, and tenors Kang Wong and Ji-Min Park as Rodolfo. Local shining mezzo-soprano star Julie Lea Goodwin is Musetta.

Much loved Bizet's Carmen is fully packed with Australian and international big names. Mezzo-sopranos Veronica Simeoni, Sian Sharp and Carmen Topciu will be performing the title role while tenors Roberto Aronica, Yonghoon Lee and Otar Jorjikia will be Don José. The role of Micaela is played by young sopranos Italian Claudia Pavone and Romanian-born British Simona Mihai, both making their Opera Australia debuts. Unmissable.

Zhong Hu, Chinese Conductor and Head of the Shanghai Opera, makes his Opera Australia debut in this revival of Sir David McVicar’s Don Giovanni. Luca Micheletti plays the titular role with Eleanor Lyons making her OA debut in the role of Donna Anna.

Gounod's Faust sees Teddy Tahu Rhodes take the stage as Mephistopheles, with Italian tenor Ivan Magri playing the title role and Russian star soprano Irina Lungu as Marguerite.

The 2020 Season will present for the first time in Australia Verdi's Attila. This is a copruduction with Teatro alla Scala in Milan where Davide Livermore’s work received widespread acclaim when it premiered in Milan. This production features a world-class cast including Taras Berezhansky as Attila, Natalie Aroyan as Odabella, Diego Torre as Foresto and Simone Piazzola as Ezio, all under the baton of Italian Maestro Andrea Licata.

In this interview Opera Australia's Artistic director Lyndon Terracini presents the 2020 Season.
