Pietro Demaio, the food doctor

Preserving the Italian way

Source: Official book cover

Our segment "A life, a history - The adventure of Italians in Australia" features this week Dr Pietro Demaio. He was born in this country in 1949 of Calabrian parents, staudied medicine and today works in a well-established medical centre in Melbourne. However, his true passion is cooking.

Pietro wrote a book called "Preserving the Italian Way," which, as he jokingly tells, has sold more copies of the biography of former Prime Minister John Howard. The book aims to keep alive the popular culinary traditions of the Italian countryside.
