Sam Mugavero has died in Sydney at the age of 85. Sam - whose real name was Salvatore - was a prominent representative of the Italian community in Australia, particularly of Sicilians.
He was born in 1933 in Agira and for years he edited Il Fico d'India, a community magazine, and ran the Coordination of Sicilian Associations. Sam was also a musician and a true opera enthusiast and lived, in his last years, for his children and grandchildren. From our archives we retrieved this interview recorded with him in 2016.
