Award winning author Kei Iwaki describes a Japanese boy’s life in Australia: part 1

Kei Iwaki, an award winning Japanese author in Australia, scores another Japanese literature prize in Japan for her second book “Masato”.

‘Masato’ is the name of a Year 6 Japanese boy who has moved to Australia with his family and has started attending a local school.  Masato’s father was transferred for work to Australia. 

‘Masato’starts with a description of the struggle Masato is having at school. He also faces conflict between his parents at home on the decision of whether or not Masato should go back to school in Japan.  

Through learning English and making friends, Masato starts feeling that he belongs in Australia.
