With the mainstay tourism industry at a standstill in the far-north Queensland city of Cairns due to COVID-19, talk has turned to creating thousands of jobs by diversifying the economy. Candidates in the coming state election are promising tens of millions of dollars for the maritime industry, to make the city a true Pacific regional hub.
