Two notebooks belonging to Charles Darwin have been mysteriously returned to Cambridge University, more than two decades after they went missing. But it is still not known who took them or where they've been.

The notebooks were last seen in November 2000 when they'd been removed to be photographed.

It was only during a routine check two months later that they were found to be missing.
