Hip hop and drill music have exploded in Australia in recent years, and local artists are getting showcased at an event in Sydney's multicultural hub, Parramatta. The up and coming artists are often independent, they find large audiences without the backing of major music labels, thanks to new technology that evens the playing field.

Parramatta and its surrounding suburbs are well known for their diversity, and with diversity comes a new sound.
A hotbed of new Australian music, Parramatta is the population and geographical centre of the greater Sydney area.
For many it is the gateway to its Western half, where the city morphs into a cradle of diverse cultures and working-class backgrounds.
SOUND WEST is a week-long music event, started last weekend, held in Parramatta's stadium.
The SOUND WEST festival aims to give a voice to emerging talent.
Rapper Masked Wolf is the event headliner.
Masked Wolf hopes his success - and that of other Australian rappers - will encourage more new talent.
SOUND WEST runs until 28th of August.
