In the wake of the Christchurch massacre, Australian politicians are condemning hate crimes and calling for unity, with Prime Minister Scott Morrison pledging extra funding to religious groups.

But experts think the grants are a short term solution, and there should be greater political responsibility to create a more cohesive society.

Prime Minister Morrison has pledged 55 million dollars in grants to help protect religious schools, mosques, synagogues, temples and churches.

The money will fund CCTV cameras, lighting, fencing, alarms and security systems.

While the additional funding pledged by Prime Minister Morrison is being welcomed by religious groups, some leaders are concerned that it is simply a short-term solution.
