In the wake of the COVID outbreak on Sydney's Northern Beaches, business groups and local government continue to press the Federal Government for financial support targeting virus hotspots. They say a number of business collapses in recent months can be blamed largely on an absence of mandated rental relief.
"Not all landlords, even with the land tax relief may have been able to afford the rent reductions themselves. The lack of rental relief would have been a huge impact in being closed. It can do affordability, throughout COVID, in not having the income coming in as they normally would in having such a large expense in rent without having any assistance."
