In 2018, there were bush fires which burnt 600 hectares of the 800-hectare farm. At that time, Miki and her husband were in Japan.  The fires were followed by devastating droughts, which put farmers in the area in a very severe situation until 2020.

Those and many other difficulties, they have been encountering have not discouraged Miki, and she is certain that, “I am so in love with my farm-life.”

Miki feels much more relaxed since she started to learn more and more about Australian culture of placing a priority to family first and looking after herself as well. She says that her family in Japan who she sees occasionally tells her that her facial expression has changed for the better.
