Governor-General Sam Mostyn AC attended a reception at the Japanese Ambassador’s residence in Canberra marking the Emperor of Japan’s birthday and the 50th Anniversary of Friendship and Cooperation Treaty. It was the first time an Australian Governor-General has attended the Emperor’s Birthday reception since Japan established its embassy in Canberra in 1953.
