A new survey by the Migrant Worker Justice Initiative of more than 6,000 international students has found, almost a quarter experienced verbal racist abuse during the pandemic and 25 per cent said people avoided them because of their appearance.

The pandemic has also made living more difficult with a majority reporting job loss and fearing homelessness.

As of June, more than 637,000 international students remain in Australia, a drop from more than 758,000 in December 2019.

People in Australia must stay at least 1.5 metres away from others. Check your state’s restrictions on gathering limits.

If you are experiencing cold or flu symptoms, stay home and arrange a test by calling your doctor or contact the Coronavirus Health Information Hotline on 1800 020 080.
