Growing up, emi emi didn’t want to speak Japanese. She simply wanted to be like everyone around her. But as she got older, she began reconnecting with her Japanese roots and grappling with the fact that she couldn’t speak the language. That experience led to the creation of emi emi, a Tasmania-based music project born from her desire to reconnect with the language and her heritage.
