Tomoko Oka, a Japanese artist based on the Central Coast of New South Wales, creates calligraphy and Sumi-e ink paintings. She is holding a solo exhibition of unique Sumi-e ink paintings featuring an Australian kukabara and a Japanese crane.
The Crane and the Kookaburra, a solo exhibition by Ms Oka, is being held at the Gosford Regional Gallery in the Central Coast until 28 January next year. Unlike traditional Japanese Sumi-e exhibitions, the exhibited works are all connected to tell a single story.
In the audio, Ms Oka talks about how she got started in Sumi-e ink painting, and the real thrill of ancient form of art.
