US Vice President Kamala Harris has promised her country will improve relations with the Pacific islands during the Pacific Islands Forum in the Fijian capital Suva.

The United States has declared plans to significantly ramp up its presence in the Pacific by enhancing its diplomatic footprint in the region.

US Vice President Kamala Harris made the announcement to the Pacific Islands Forum in Suva, saying her country will deliver 600 million US dollars in additional support – a move that counters China’s growing influence in the region.

Ms Harris admitted in her address that her nation has not previously provided the diplomatic attention the region deserved.
