Japan's Wheelchair tennis hero Shingo Kunieda amnd heroin Yui Kamiji have won Melbourne Open 2019. Prior to the tournament, SBS Radio Japanese spoke to Shingo and Yui at the opening reception organised by Tennis Australia and Consulate General of Japan on 14th January 2019.
Top 8 wheelchair tennis players around the globe, both men and women are serious contenders for winning the title in any tournament in recent years. Shingo Kunieda, World's No.1 has regained his top spot last year at Australian Open after 3-year-struggles to recover from his elbow injury. "New Shingo is coming," he declared. A year on, he is still No.1 and back to Australian soil in great condition and spirit.
Meanwhile, Yui Kamiji has been consistently winning the tournaments. Yui and Netherland's Diede de Groot are in head-to-head at the Final in recent tournaments. She is ready to take Australian Open after losing to Diede at the final last year.
SBS caught up with these two superstars at the opening ceremony of Melbourne Open 2019 in Hume Tennis and Community Centre.
