Kurdish journalist and photographer Renas Lelikan has been accused of being a member of the PKK, which is listed as a "terrorist organisation" by the Australian government since 2005.

Members of the Kurdish community in Sydney turned out to show their support at the hearing in The Supreme Court of NSW. Greens NSW MP for Balmain Jamie Parker was also present to show his support for Mr Lelikan.

The Australian Federal Police has acknowledged that Mr Lelikan poses no risk to the Australian community. However he's being held in solitary confinement at SuperMax prison in Goulburn, NSW due to be threatened by ISIS supporters inmates previously.

SBS Kurdish contacted Renas Lelikan's lawyer, however he is not permitted to comment on the case.

We will be providing further update and information on this story as they reach us.
