For over fourteen years, the Kurds and the Syrian Democratic Forces were central to United States (US) efforts against the IS group. Recent shifts under the Trump administration, led by envoy Tom Barrack, indicate the US is pulling back support from the Kurds and instead backing Syria’s interim president, Ahmed al-Shara. In an interview, with senior fellow at the New Lions Institute and former spokesman for the U.S.-led coalition against IS group in Syria and Iraq, Colonel Myles Caggins lll analyses the implications of this change.
