Kurdish refugee Darwish Sido opened his tailoring shop in Newcastle in 2019. On June 3rd 2022 with the help of Thrive business loan, his two sons Mihamed and Khalil launched their barber shop.

Kurdish refugee Darwish Sido opened his tailoring shop in Newcastle in 2019. On June 3rd 2022 with the help of Thrive business loan, his two sons Mihamed and Khalil launched their barber shop.


Darwish Sido and his family resettled in Newcastle by the Australian government in 2016. Mr Sido speaks to us about the opportunities Australia gives to new arrivals if they are willing to work. 

"We are very happy in Newcastle, we've always felt welcomed. We must give them back their good deeds, the way they gave us".
