The world has been paying tribute to the memory of Pope Francis, the first Latin American pope and a transformative figure in the modern Catholic Church. He had suffered from double pneumonia earlier this year and died on Easter Monday [[21 April]] at the age of 88. His death came as a shock following his appearance in St Peter’s Square on Easter Sunday, where he greeted crowds from an open-air popemobile.
