There will be no Macedonia among the participating countries at this year’s World Cup.
Macedonian football fans will have to wait for another opportunity to cheer for their team.
For now they’ll be cheering for another national team of their choice.
However, throughout the 88-year old history of the World Cup, a total of four Macedonians have felt the excitement of a world cup championship.
The celebrated Macedonian goalkeeper Blagoja Vidinic was part of the world championships twice, but as a selector.In 1970, the World Cup in Mexico, Vidinic led the Moroccan national team, while four years later, he was on the bench for Zaire at the West German WC.
Kiril Dojcinovski was another Macedonian who took part in the 1974 World Cup as part of the football selection of the former Yugoslavia.
At the World Cup in Italy in 1990, there were two football players from Macedonia - Darko Pancev and Vujadin Stanojkovic -who were also part of the Yugoslavian national team. Panchev scored two goals at the World Cup becoming the first Macedonian striker in the World Cup. Vujadin Stanojkovic also ran into the green fields in Italy.
In the company of these Macedonian players who played at the world championships is another name Mile STERJOVSKI.
Mile Sterjovski played at the 2006 World Cup in Germany in the jersey of Australia. He performed at three meetings.
Sterjovski, who had a great career in Australia but also an international career for Sokerus, played a total of 43 games, reaching 9 goals.
Mile Sterjovski has a World Cup appearance with Australia from well-known Macedonian football players in Australia.
