Keating blasts Fairfax merger with Nine after 150 years

One of the best-known names in Australian media, Fairfax, will cease to exist by the end of the year, swallowed up in a takeover by the Nine Network. The 150-year-old company is set to become a minor partner in the merger. The Federal Government has welcomed the deal, but some Fairfax employees and, notably, former prime minister Paul Keating have derided it.
