NATO’s 29 members signed an accession Protocol with Macedonia on Wednesday allowing the country, under its changed name, to become the 30th member of the military alliance. "Today is a historic day. This Protocol will bring more security and prosperity to the whole region", NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg twitted after the ceremony. Macedonian President Gjorge Ivanov said that Macedonia, by changing its constitutional name, had paid a 'heavy cost' in becoming a NATO member.
