Lisolaj had 230 villagers according to the Census in 2008 in Macedonia. Most of the people have moved to Bitola, Skopje,USA and European countries. Legend has it that the name of this settlement is related to a hunter whose child became lost in the thick forest. The man urged his dog Liso to bark (pronounced "luy" in Macedonian) in searching for the child. The name of the village was created by merging the two words Liso and luy.
