116 years ago the first Macedonian republic erupted in the balkans in direct defiance of the Ottoman empire. Despite tragically lasting only ten days due to the enormity of the Turkish forces, Macedonians continue to honor its fallen heroes and brilliant minds that had set a path toward not only freedom, but, toward equality for all who resided within her, regardless of faith or ethnicity. SBS Macedonian follows the commemorative proceedings in honour of Ilinden organised by the Macedonian Orthodox Community of Melbourne and Victoria, St. George and Mother Mary, Epping on 4 August.
