German Chancellor Angela Merkel encouraged Macedonia and Greece with a compromise to resolve the name dispute. After meeting with Prime Minister Zoran Zaev in Berlin, she ruled out any speculation about Germany's possible involvement in the negotiations, saying the pressure would not help the process. Sixty prominent Greek leftists in a petition published in the print media claimed on Thursday that they had decided that neighboring Macedonia should be recognized under that name, despite the official position of Athens opposed since 1991. At the height of the talks with Greece on the name differences, in which one of the topics is the Macedonian language, from Turkey reached the information on opening a direction for Macedonian language and literature at the University of Ankara.
