Victoria Police has launched a Facebook Page -Eyewatch Melton with the aim of connecting directly with the residents in Melbourne’s western suburbs who were recently targeted with carjacking, thefts and burglaries. The new Facebook Page can now help residents connect with local police to assist fight crime and build community confidence.
Deputy Commissioner Andrew Crisp said Eyewatch pages were an effective way for police to connect with the community and fight crime. He added that Eyewatch was an open platform for the community to connect with police about a variety of issues. However, he said Eyewatch pages should not be used as a channel to report crime or emergencies.
The new Facebook Page will cover Melton, Caroline Springs, Diggers Rest and the surrounding suburbs where residents can assist police in tracking down the offenders and communicate each other about community safety issues.
Victoria Police currently has 20 active Eyewatch pages across the state, including the nearby Brimbank and Wyndham council areas.
Several Indian families have recently faced attacks from burglars and there were even cases of attempt to carjack at knife point in Melbourne's west. Also, an Indian-Australian family was recently attacked by four burglars in their Caroline Springs residents. This has created a panic among the community and the concerned community members of Melbourne’s West have already requested the state government to increase the number of police officers in their area.
In the video below Chief Commissioner Graham Ashton welcomes the residents from the Melton and Caroline Springs areas to their new Eyewatch page.
