Hi Janagar. First of all, I would like to congratulations on your awesome achievement. I want to ask about like when you saw your ATAR result, what was the first thing that went through your mind?
Naturally, I was extremely happy when I first saw it. I was only trying to get above a 99 ATAR, so finding out I had achieved a high 99 was a really joyous moment for me. I knew with that ATAR I would most likely be Dux of my school, which I had not expected to be at all.
What study habits or strategies do you think made the biggest difference in achieving such a high ATAR?
Uh, well, doing many past papers and marking them definitely helped me in my actual HSC exams. The key is also to do them consistently. Also, whenever you learn things, you should always try to find the reason behind them. For example, if you learned that the sky is blue, then you should be asking, "What makes the sky blue?" Even if it's not taught at school, I recommend you look at these things in your own time at least. This helped me gain a profound understanding of topics in school. Having an academic rival at my school also made a big difference for me. We would be spurring each other on to do better and aim for perfection. I can safely say I wouldn't have done as well as I have without them. I believe having some healthy competition with friends is beneficial, but please remember to prioritize feelings and friendship over boasting about grades.
What would you like to say to Mongolian students maybe who are working towards their ATAR now?
Yeah. Uh, so the HSC is brutal. It's stressful, tiring and scary, and some days you might feel overwhelmed. But it's important to remember that a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Instead of los- instead of focusing on the HSC as a whole, just focus on your next exams, your next week, your next day. When you realize that the HSC is not a terrifying and overbearing wall, but a staircase built upon persistence, that's when you'll be able to confidently take your first step.
What is your plan for the future? Which career have you decided to pursue?
Um, so I'm gonna study nuclear engineering at UNSW because maths is my passion. Uh, I'm not sure if I'll become a nuclear engineer because there won't be many jobs here in Australia for them. Rather, I might transfer to a mechanical or aerospace degree while in university. Physics has always been my favorite subject, so I'm excited to pursue engineering.
