Police say emergency services were called after a body of a woman was found on North Cronulla beach, south of Sydney around 5 in the morning on 23 May.
The woman has now being identified by NSW Police as a 26-year-old woman from Nepal.
No further information has been released but police say the body was discovered by two local women on their morning walk and that the death is not being treated as suspicious.
However, NSW police have urged people to provide any information that may help understand how the woman died.
On Wednesday police had described the deceased as being of "Indian/Subcontinental appearance, approximately 155-160cm tall and of small build".
Terry O'Neill, Detective Chief Inspector from Sutherland Police Area Command said the woman was wearing "long sleeved black wool turtle neck jumper, maroon pants and black runner shoes with a white sole".
Meanwhile, Nepal's Consul General for NSW, Mr Deepak Khadka said this was a sad day for the Nepali community.
He said his office is providing assistance to NSW police.
People with any information have been urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or use the Crime Stoppers online reporting page: https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au/
After a number of drowning deaths within Australia's Nepali community in 2016, various water safety campaigns have been organized.
