Nepali chef Hari Prasad Dhakal has been found guilty of murdering a customer at a Ballarat restaurant in 2016.

The verdict was announced by a twelve member jury at Ballarat’s Supreme Court on Wednesday, May 23.

During the hearing, prosecutors had alleged that 51-year- old Dhakal stabbed  38- year- old Pakistan born Abdullah Siddiqui multiple times after a heated argument in the kitchen of an Indian restaurant in Ballarat where Dhakal worked as a chef.

The court heard that at the time of the incident Mr Siddiqi had been drinking and was abusive towards Dhakal.

Earlier, the court was told that the chef had taken himself to the local police station to report the incident.

Despite not denying Killing Mr Siddiqi, Dhakal pleaded not guilty to murder with his defense barrister Theo Alexander arguing self-defense.

Alexander said his client thought Mr Siddiqi had gone to get a knife during the argument and was terrified.

Hari Prasad Dhakal is due to be sentenced on June 1,2018.
