The bus was carrying 38 people including students and teachers from a school in Dang district when it veered off the road at Ramri village in Tulasipur.

Police say the students were returning from a trip to a botanical garden in Salyan district.

Speaking to local media, Jeevan Shahi, Chief of Police in Tulsipur said 18 men and seven women were among the deceased that included two teachers and the bus driver as well.

According to Shahi 22 were confirmed dead at the crash site and brought to Rapti Zonal Hospital and another person passed away during treatment at Nepalgunj on Sunday morning.

At least 14 people were injured.

Police say speeding may have caused the crash, but investigations are continuing.

On December 15, at least 20 people were killed after a truck they were travelling in plunged into a river north of Kathmandu.
