Speaking to the Nine Network Prime Minister Scott Morrison said he has spoken to his colleagues about dumping the plan first raised by Liberal Treasurer Joe Hockey during his 2014 budget speech.
Mr Morrison said his government will not change the retirement age set by the Labor government and will remain at 67. He cited various packages that he announced as a treasurer in this year's budget.
"In this year's budget, I announced a whole package of measures to help Australians to live a longer and healthier and more active life. I don't think we need that measure any longer when it comes to raising the pension age and it's one of the things I'll be changing pretty quickly. I've talked to my colleagues about it. We'll ratify it next week. The pension age gone to 70 gone", he said.
But Opposition leader Bill Shorten says the Prime Minister needs to explain his change of mind.

The Labor leader says it's hard to believe Mr Morrison is serious about not increasing the retirement age given he's been pushing for it for years.
"Who is the real Scott Morrison and do you really trust him? In the last three budgets, Scott Morrison was the treasurer. Scott Morrison wrote the last three budgets and every one of those last three budgets he wanted to increase the retirement age to the age of 70."
