Dhanmaya Moktan, the mother of Samjhana Das who succumbed to the injuries caused by the acid attack, believes the weak punitive system has led in the increased of similar acid attacks.


It is alleged that the acid attack on 18-years old Samjhana was carried by a 50-years old man, who wanted to marry her. Dhanamaya told us that the attacker poured acid after Samjhana refused to marry him.

The attack happened in the night when Samjhana and her sister, Susmita, were asleep. The younger sister is still recovering.
