The chairman of the National COVID-19 Coordination Commission is suggesting charter flights for international students to prop up an industry in crisis. Meanwhile, the federal government says it may consider a travel exemption for international students.

With at least 10 per cent of international students stuck overseas, Australia’s fourth-biggest export is in trouble.

International Education Association of Australia chief Phil Honeywood says the export of Australian education is a key revenue source for public universities and many other private education providers.

He says for the sake of Australia’s future, international students need to return.
