Despite heavy pressure to choose a woman, a former Australian ambassador to Israel has been chosen as the Liberal Party's candidate in the upcoming Wentworth by-election. David Sharma beat seven other candidates to win preselection for the ballot triggered by the resignation of former prime minister Malcolm Turnbull. However with candidates like Kerryn Phelps and Labor's Tim Murray, Sharma faces a tough competition to retain the seat for the Liberal party.
