Nepal’s former President Bidya Devi Bhandari, who had been hinting at a return to active politics, officially announced her re-entry into the CPN-UML party on Saturday, 28 June 2025. While some analysts believe her return could stir a new wave in Nepali politics, others argue that a former president re-engaging in party politics raises concerns of a potential “conflict of interest”. Our Nepal correspondent Prayas Dulal spoke to Krishna Khanal a retired professor of political science at Tribhuvan University (1979–2010) who also served as an executive director of the Centre for Nepal and Asian Studies (CNAS) in 1994/95 and was an advisor to Prime Minister of Nepal Girija Prasad Koirala in 1999.
