Fiji has thrown further doubt on the Australian government's decision of scrapping Neil Prakash's citizenship after reports emerged that Fiji is not willing to accept him as its citizen.

Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton announced on Saturday that the former Islamic State recruiter has lost the Australian citizenship for engaging terrorism.

Prakash was born in Melbourne to a Fijian father and Cambodian mother.

However, reports have emerged that Fiji's Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama stated to a local newspaper that  Prakash "cannot come here because he does not qualify".

However, the Australian government has reiterated that it stands by decision to strip Prakash's citizenship.
