Every year on May 29, International Everest Day is celebrated to mark the historic first ascent of Mount Everest in 1953 by Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa. In this episode, we speak with Sir Edmund Hillary’s son Peter Hillary, who describes his childhood under the shadow of a world-famous father, the future of Australia–Nepal relationship and his thoughts on the recent record-breaking crowds at Everest. Peter has summited Mount Everest twice and taken part in five Everest expeditions. The Kiwi is also a founding director of the Australian Himalayan Foundation (AHF), a charity organisation working in Nepal and other Himalayan nations.
