Nepal election talk: Will female candidates reach 33% as mandated?

For the upcoming House of Representatives elections scheduled for March 5, 2026, Nepal's Election Commission has instructed political parties to ensure that at least one-third of their nominated candidates are women. Our Nepal correspondent Pratichya Dulal spoke with political analyst and researcher Sucheta Pyakural about how likely this mandate is to be effectively implemented. Pyakural is also a visiting faculty at Tribhuvan University's Central Department of Gender Studies.
