Nepal's child brides: "most raising children alone"

Human Rights Watch

According to a Human Rights Watch (HRW) report, thirty-seven per cent of Nepali girls get married before the age of 18, and 10 per cent before 15. Even though child marriage is illegal in the country, HRW has accused the government of not doing enough to stop the practice. Ira Shrestha, one of the researchers for the report, says she met girls as young as 12 who were married. Shrestha spoke to SBS Nepali about the stories she was told by these young mothers.
