As the government in Nepal urged its people to celebrate the Constitution Day with "Deepawali", some political parties together with the ethnic, tribal and indigenous communities protested and labelled it a black day. The Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (NEFIN), the umbrella organisation of indigenous nationalities in Nepal is one of them. Stating that the constitution promulgated in 2015 does not guarantee the rights of indigenous peoples, they have been demanding amendment. We spoke with NEFIN Chairman Jagat Baram to find more.
