Pushpa Basnet has been rescuing Nepali children forced to stay within the four walls of Nepal's prison system because of their incarcerated mothers.

In 2005, when the then 21-year-old Pushpa Basnet met young children within Nepal's prison walls, she decided to help them. Basnet went on to start an early childhood centre to give those kids a new home and has since helped more than 500 children.

Many of those children see her as their own mother and call her "Mamu".

Basnet spoke to Pratichya Dulal about her work, her struggles, what makes her happy and her soon to be released biography.
