Radio-drama highlights the importance of mother-tongue

Many Nepali parents in Australia would like their kids to speak in their mother tongue too, not just in English. Students from Shabdamala school in south-western Sydney have highlighted the importance of knowing the native language.


"Mero Jaara", which translates as "My Roots" is a drama played by kids who are aged below fourteen years. while enacting as grand-parents, parents and kids, the participants also gave a message to the community to encourage the little ones to speak in Nepali at home.

Students who participated in this drama were- Hritika and Kritika Kharel, Deevaj Bajracharya, Crisa Thapa, Adhiraj Manandhar, Ashutosh Pokharel, Nelly Gurung, Rayz Shrestha, Shriya Sapkota, Utsav Kashichhawa, Jisan Shrestha, Krishma Shrestha and Akshayta Paudel. The drama was co-written by Deepa Shakya and Barada Karki.
