The eighth edition of the Women's football World Cup is underway. The opening ceremony and opening match in Paris featured plenty of colour and excitement. It's hopefully a preview of things to come over the next month.

The French singer Jain entertains a crowd of more than forty five thousand before the opening game of the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup.

And once the action got underway on the field at the Parc des Princes ((park day pronce)) in Paris, it was scarcely less entertaining.

The tournament's opening match featured host nation France playing South Korea.

And it didn't take long for the hosts to make their mark.

They opened the scoring in just the ninth minute of play.

France got off to a perfect start as the hosts beat South Korea 4-0 in the opening game.
