Three R's online training module launched.

A forum hosted by the Australian Council of Deans of Education has launched the Three R's online training module. The three R's represent Respect, Relationships and Reconciliation and the resource helps teachers gain confidence teaching Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander issues, culture and history in the classroom.

Dr Peter Anderson, Chair of the Australian Indigenous Lecturers in Teacher Education Association helped create the resource and said that given we have a national curriculum, Indigenous issues should be seen as a priority area in the Australian education landscape.

Dr Anderson said we have almost 450. 000 teachers  and many of them don’t have the skills and confidence to teach Aboriginal culture and issues.

The forum addressed the need to prioritise support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and academics with mentoring provided so that students progress into academic roles particularly within teacher education.
