The campaign “Let’s talk about What it Means to be a Father” encourages fathers and father-figures to reflect on and understand the important role they play in raising the next generation with values of respect, gender equality and, ultimately, violence prevention.

Let’s talk about What it Means to be a Father is an initiative of White Ribbon, an organisation that works to create a healthier, positive view of masculinity.

Rod Silva, a father of two daughters and White Ribbon Ambassador, champions this campaign together with his oldest daughter, Marlee.

“It is a bout fathers getting involved in the campaign to conquer violence against women. It was an opportunity to speak about violence against women and my daughters’ upbringing; me as a father and what I try to teach to my children,” Rod Silva said in our conversation.

The aim of Let’s talk about What it Means to be a Father seeks to celebrate the many fathers who are challenging traditional views of masculinity, resetting society’s perception of what it means to be a dad.

Rod Silva also says that the campaign is not just about fathers. It is also about father–figures and role-models sending a positive message of what it means to be a father. The campaign also includes resources, tools and education opportunities.
