A yarn with four participants in a unique art residency exchange project linking Indigenous artists from Victoria and the NT to counterparts from Sicily (Italy).

The group comprised of two artists: Steaphan Paton, a descendant of the Gunai and Monero- Ngarigo peoples who grew up in Gippsland, Victoria but now lives in Melbourne and Giuseppe Lana an Italian artist who lives and works between London and Catania

The two artists were accompanied by Miriam La Rosa an independent curator and PhD Candidate at The University of Melbourne.

Regina Pilawuk Wilson a Ngan’gikurrungurr woman, senior artist and cultural director of Durrmu Arts joined the conversation by telephone elaborating on her recent residency in Sicily where her artwork was exhibited.

Miriam La Rosa is the co-curator of the project together with Kade McDomald of Durrmu Arts, a remote community Aboriginal arts enterprise established to maintain and promote the culture of the Ngan’gikurrunggurr and Ngan’gityemerri people based in Peppimenarti (Northen Territory).
