Support for a new Referendum Council to lead the next steps towards Constitutional Recognition and Reform.

A final decision has been made on a new Referendum council taking a lead towards the next step in the referendum process to recognise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the Australian Constitution.

The newly appointed Co-chairs Professor Pat Dodson and Mark Leibler AC will steer the council into the final stages of consultation with first nations communities.

This council will ensure that the referendum and Constitutional reform process is not simply a gesture for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

ANTaR, national advocacy organisation for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander rights, welcomes the establishment of a Referendum Council.

National Director Andrew Meehan spoke to Living Black radio about ANTARs' support.
