Ash Barty claims women's number one ranking

Indigenous tennis star Ashleigh Barty has become Australia's first women's world number one player in 43 years.

Ashleigh Barty is the first Australian woman to seize the world number one tennis ranking in almost half a century after claiming her third title of 2019.

Barty defeated doubles partner, Julia Goerges, in the final of the Birmingham Classic to take the top ranking.

It comes just two weeks after she won her first Grand Slam at the French Open.
